Japocalypse

The sum of the events that occured in Japan as a result of the earthquakes of March 11, 2011. The earthquakes triggered massive tsunami waves 30 feet in size that completely destroyed the areas near Sendai, the epicentre of the event. Following the natural disasters, several major nuclear reactors started failing, causing widespread radioactive fallout.

As of the publishing date of this definition, only the first three waves of destruction have ocurred: Earthquakes, Tsunamis and Nuclear Fallout. More will follow, undoubtedly, as potential for nuclear meltdown is possible causing mutations; biological events due to cross-contamination of sewage and drinking water, famine; let's not forget civil unrest caused by tainted sushi and jammed vending machines that dispense used panties, etc.

As a result of the Japocalypse of 2011, small sea reptiles found their way to the core of several nuclear reactors. It is not known if their displacement was caused by the massive tsunami waves, or simply by the helicopters that were attempting to cool the reactors with scooped sea water. What is known is that one reptile survived the massive levels of radiation, feeding and growing to the size of a skycraper to form the fourth wave of destruction in the Japocalypse - GODZILLAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

A term for the combined disasters of earthquakes, tsunamis, and nuclear meltdowns occuring in Japan in March 2011. It's a portmanteau using the words Japan and apocalypse.

APOCALYPS3

When an update arrived February 28th, 2010 for the PS3, it caused all first-gen PS3s to be unable to connect to the Playstation Network.

Affected units have their system date set to Dec 31, 1999 (something impossible to do manually, according to PS3 News) or January 1st 2000 and the consoles are only able to play non-protected games.

This, combined with errors like the following: 8001050F - Hardware failure. Cannot update Firmware or connect to Internet

Sony says they'll have my PS3 working by March 2nd! All I have to do is connect to the Playsation Network to get the fixed update. Oh wait...the APOCALYPS3 HAS COME. CATCH 22.

IPocalypse

a phenomenon marked by exhaustion of IP addresses that identify destinations for digital traffic. The proposed solution lies in switching over from the existing IPv4 standard to that of IPv6 that allows trillions of Internet addresses vis-à-vis the former that allows a paltry 4 billion or so addresses. The big pool in the sky, a giver of IP addresses and a fast-draining reservoir of addresses maintained by the non-profit organization Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Addresses (ICANN), is going to run out in the next few weeks. The number of addresses IPv6 allows is a whopping 340 undecillion (followed by 36 zeroes), enough for a trillion people.

Do not worry about an IPocalypse. It is not going to take place any time soon.
