When you're opposed to something, only to change your mind a year later in favour of it. Just like Ireland did with the Nice and Lisbon treaties.
Guy 1: "Dude! My girlfriend finally agreed!"
Guy 2: "Seriously? I thought last year she was all like "exit only"?
Guy 1: I guess she had an Irish referendum on the matter.

During the gold and silver rush years in the second half of the 19th century, a number of the most famous and successful miners were of Irish and Irish American birth. . . .Over time this association of the Irish with mining fortunes led to the expression 'luck of the Irish.'

1)Real Irishmen. Not Blondes or Ginger Snaps with freckles or any garbage like that. Despite popular belief, Black Irish is not from Spain, because the ORIGINAL Celtic inhabitants of the British Isles all had black hair, the Celts being from Gaul (France, hence the language Gaelic) so they had black hair. The only reason why most Scotch-Irish people have blond or red hair and freckles is because of the humungous Viking and Saxon influence. Therefore, Black Irish is the Real Irish. The End.
Ignorant NorthEasterner:"Hey Spick!"
Black Irishman:"I'm not Hispanic a-hole, I'm Irish!"
Ignorant NorthEasterner: "Oh, you don't look like no dirty Mick!"
Black Irishman: "It's called Black Irish you ignorant retard!"

An American phrase, not an Irish one. Used to insult Irish immigrants that came to America during the gold rush.
The Luck of the Irish was to say, only by sheer luck, as opposed to brains, could these idiots find gold. It’s outdated and offensive.

-John got his promotion at work, all the hard work paid off!
- Ah that’s the luck of the Irish for you!
