Similar to selective hearing. A condition in which someone is unable to hear anything in their immediate area, yet is able to hear things far away.

(in the same room)
R: T. is a real pain in the arse.
P: I know
T: Pizza?

(somewhere outside)
T: Did you hear that bird hatching?
R: WHAT?!
P: Classic soap opera hearing.

Soap-on-a-roper

A man who devotes excessive energy to avoiding being judged homosexual, thus unwittingly demonstrating his own insecurity with regard to his sexual orientation. Derived from the device used by (among others) prisoners who do not wish to bend over in the shower.

A: Lee could be a serious competitive swimmer if he didn't insist on swimming in those massive military shorts.
B: That's typical, he's a total soap-on-a-roper.

When sharing a hotel room with friends, to take the first shower and leave your body hair embedded in the communal bar of soap.

When crashing in Pete's room at the Borgata last Friday, "Gears" took the first shower in the morning and proceeded to ron the soap by failing to remove his nasty pubes from the bar before toweling off and dressing.
