When the aliens attack in the future but they're not sure which reality to tune back into or revive as stable following the lengthy attack over many years, some individuals or things get kerflunkt or not kerflunkt. Ultimately it's for a (rollback) reality/parity check and a "test" of our emergency broadcast services where before/afterwards you get to return to your regularly scheduled programming.
