To rapidly slow down or stop a moving vehicle by mashing down the brake pedal. So named because of the tires skidding when done in a car without anti-lock brakes.

Can also be used in a metaphorical sense, in which it means to halt whatever action or process is currently occurring.

The police were waiting with a speed trap around the bend, so I hit the skids.

A term first brought to life by Dashboard Confessional in their album "Swiss Army Romance." Combining the words swiss and army, this term refers to a relationship in which one struggles to be themselves and find their true identity. The other person in the relationship provides the "swiss army," a peaceful force fighting for the greater good of the relationship, and most of all, trying to help the other person find themselves.

You are lucky if you find yourself in a swiss army romance; someone cares enough about you to help you out.

Italian Swimsuit

The term used to describe what people in the mafia would make their victims "wear" before swimming with the fishes. Usually consisting of weights/bricks/other heavy objects being attached to someone before being thrown into a large, deep body of water.

Mafia guy: Hey, this guy won't pay up.

Other guy: Well, let's give him an Italian Swimsuit because he's gonna be swimming with the fishes pretty soon.

Mafia guy: I'll go grab some bricks.
