On The Office, Jim and Pam would hum the same high pitched note until Dwight called the ear doctor for an appointment. They called it pretendonitis.

pretentious

adj. pompous, ostentatious, pretending, an extravagent outward show. I find pretentious a versatile word that can be used to describe anything from musicians (Thom Yorke), clothes (berets) and musical genres (beat poetry, acid jazz)

It is also a word that I over use

O Pretentious One- Thom Yorke is God!
Me- You are so pretentious

O Pretentious One- I like living in my studio apartment, wearing black clothes and a red beret whilst listening to beat poetry and acid jazz
Me- Get a life you pretentious douchebag!
