disinterpret

To deliberately misinterpret what someone says or does. As misinterpretation is to mistakenly interpret someone's words or actions, disinterpretation is is to deliberately fail to interpret someone's words or actions correctly.

Karen is wilfully disinterpreting our border and immigration policy to everyone she speaks to, because she enjoys saying people are filled with of hate.
