A dark tradition of police misconduct in which suspects, seated or lying face down and in handcuffs in the back of a police wagon, are jolted and battered by an intentionally rough and bumpy ride that can do as much damage as a police baton without an officer having to administer a blow.

Q: Do you believe the Washington Post's report based on a leaked police document that Freddie Gray was intentionally "trying to injure himself" by banging against the walls of the police van?
A: Hell no, I believe that leaked police document and the Washington Post report is a cover up; any idiot can conclude Freddie Gray was mortally wounded by a rough ride ! Up in Philly they call it a nickel ride.

A job-related punishment or reprisal that is not illegal or discriminatory. Frequently applied to situations where the employee has not met the employer's subjective expectations of exercising discretion or judgement, but was not exactly wrong, either.
