Ratchet is a noun as well as an adjective. As a noun, a ratchet is someone (male or female, of any race) that has no social grace. They do not know how to say things like "please" or "thank you" and are often seen wearing clothes that are either too
big or too
small. Example: "That ratchet came over here and made a huge
mess, then left it for someone else to clean!"
As an adjective, ratchet describes a person's behavior. It does not imply or insinuate a
gender, race, or sexual preference. Plainly put, if someone says, "You are ratchet" they are saying you act like a fool, you have no manners, and you are ignorant in all forms of etiquette. A ratchet customer in a bar or restaurant will make ridiculous demands, they will flag a server down 100 times for stupid things, they chew with their mouths open, they make a huge mess on the
table, they sit in someone's section for hours without buying anything (they will drink
water and suck ice cubes instead), and they won't leave a
dime because ratchets are notoriously cheap. They will also pluck one of their own hairs and drop it on their empty plate and then demand a refund for the
food they ate.
Don't be ratchet!
