Get the Brucing mug.Guided Modification and Branching (GMB) describes a process by which species may have originated over millions of years through common descent by the intelligent modification of the genetic code from one generation to the next. It is a subset of Intelligent Design. It differs from some types of theistic evolution in that it proposes that a possible reason God may have had in producing life this way was to build a complex ecology gradually at a pace that the angels could learn to manage and control.
The woodpecker has some unusual characteristics that show irreducible complexity that are difficult to explain by evolution, but can be easily explained by Guided Modification and Branching. God could have taken a similar species of insect eating bird and modified the genetics of that bird to produce a new bird with a hard beak, strong neck muscles, the instinct to drill trees, etc.
