Team Fortress 2 

Single handedly the most fun online game ever. Puts two teams (RED and BLU) of nine unique classes (Scout, Soldier, Heavy, Spy, Pyro, Sniper, Engineer, Demoman, and Medic) against each other. A sequel to the Quake mod Team Fortress (released as a standalone game called Team Fortress Classic), TF2 (as it is commonly abbreviated) was originally announced in 1998 for a '99 release. However, as Valve is prone to doing (see Valve Time), development of the game was stopped and started repeatedly for nine years until 2006, when the current version of the game was unveiled at E3 an While the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 versions are very fun, the PC/Mac version is the best, as it is often updated to include new maps, game modes, weapons, and accessories.

I got an F on my exam because I stayed up all night playing Team Fortress 2. Totally worth it.

there was Quake 2. And it kicked ass, dammit. The CTF mod especially.

Quake 2 is what you played if for some reason you didn't like the realism of CounterStrike. Jumping off the walls with rockets and a grappling hook is fun shit.

Battlefield Bad Company 2 

Very likely the best team-based first-person shooter currently on the market.

Bad Company 2 incorporates highly destructible environments, four-man squads as part of the overall team (as in real warfare), and realistic effects such as bullets taking time to reach their targets due to distance and bullet drop due to gravity (which makes sniping a bit difficult, but more skillful and tactical than that retarded quickscoping nonsense).

Set in the near future with an array of modern weaponry to choose from, players have access to four "kits," which include: Assault, Medic, Engineer, and Recon.

With very large maps and the option to engage in vehicular combat, players cannot adhere to a single style of play, whether they like it or not. Despite this reality, players still like to use the Medic kit because you don't have to reload as often with an LMG; and they still use the Recon kit because sniping doesn't require too much effort on their part.
