employee favoritism

Usually occurs when a member of management forms a bond with a new employee. The pair become bffs having a lot in common and become friends outside of work as well. Manager promotes new hire straight through the ranks bypassing competent employees having worked there for many years. This creates resentment and a bad work environment.
