Get the nathan gunyan mug.The tutorial boss of Dark Souls 3 that some people struggle with for some reason. I mean I beat him on my first try, but to be fair I did play both other souls games and bloodborne before I fought him so I had experience and I didn't have to git gud.
He has two phases;
During the first phase, Gundyr basically just swings his halberd at you. This can be countered by parrying, but if you're like me and can't parry for shit you should just try to stay behind him. He's not that hard to dodge, but you will need to be good at managing your stamina. Try not to run out and you should be good. He can't hit you there as long as you stay there. You only have 3 estus during this fight unless you're in Journey 2 (AKA New Game+), so try not to get hit I guess.
During the second phase, he gets a big fat thing on his shoulders that I have no idea what the hell it is. This shit is scary, but using fire on it does a lot of damage so if you start as a pyromancer or pick black firebombs as your gift you should try using those. If you're not really struggling that much you should save your firebombs though. If you didn't do either, the same strategy as phase 1 will work. Try staying behind him, he can't hit you there.
also he's one of the easier bosses in the game so good luck with all of the actual hard bosses that come later.
