A county in California about 30 minutes east of Stockton, but nothing like Stockton, and is part of the foothills to the Sierra Nevadas. The countryside varies greatly from sparse oak trees to pine meadows with snow in higher elevation. There are a lot of drug problems including alcohol and methamphetamine. Many beautiful rivers, caverns, and rich historical sites and remnants reside in the county; even those of a disgraceful history of our treatment towards Native Americans and Chinese immigrants. Caves exist all over properties and there are even a few you can visit. It is easy to get bored living here since there are not a lot of things to do at night or in social atmospheres outside of the home. The people are interesting, many different groups, and you will be sure to get pulled over going faster than the posted speed limit. There are many back/dirt roads and small areas that are off the main roads. The FrogJumps is what we call our county fair and we actually jump frogs, not sure if we still do today but we did. Calaveras is a cool place, definitely can be boring, and the people who live here have a lot of pride and identity associated with the place.
I wanted to prove that people from Calaveras County can spell - unlike the two who posted before me.

Get the CalArts Style mug.Having created a winning formula, restaurateur Alan Yau has had little reason to tamper with Busaba's shared tables and bench seating, or the oriental mystique created by clever design, dark wood, incense and low lighting. The dishes are consistently interesting, as you might expect of a menu initially created by chef David Thompson of Nahm, though the menu does evolve and changes regularly. Current dishes worth seeking out are the rice served with a generous amount of crab meat, or the delicately textured tofu, lightly fried then served with a spicy yellow bean sauce. Salads, such as the pomelo with water chestnut and chilli, are a strong point; so are the hot drinks (lemongrass and honey). Occasionally the noodle dishes can disappoint: our vegetarian pad thai had flaccid noodles, and had a gloopy sauce coating the baby sweetcorn and shiitake mushrooms. But the disappointments are easily outnumbered by the hits at this popular joint, and the dishes are never dull in either flavour or ingredients.
Phoenix Equity Partners have recently invested in Yau's Busaba Eathai Holdings Limited, signalling a new era for this popular chain as plans for expansion go underway. 20-30 new branches across the UK will be rolled out over the next five years.

Get the busaba calamari mug.Aka California Institute of the Arts. A prominent and nationally recognized art conservatory located in the upper-class suburban town of Valencia, California, in the 661 region of northern Los Angeles County. The first art school in the U.S, it was founded by Walt Disney in the 60's to breed future animators and filmmakers. Yearly tuition is more than $30,000+ with little assistance of financial aid, thus the majority of students come from a background of wealth and privilege. The irony behind this fact is that many students purport a bohemian lifestyle, often living in their studios and neglecting basic hygiene to demonstrate how "edgy" they are. Once a school with an impressive list of art all-stars, the morale at the school has fallen in recent years with the average age of the student population dropping to a younger, straight-out-of-high-school vibe. Notable Alumni include Paul Rubbins (Pee-Wee Herman), Tim Burton, Don Cheadle, and David Hasslehoff. CalArts is also notorious for its large-scale parties and gallery openings, such as their Halloween party and a fashion show in the spring semester, previously known as "The Erotic Ball". The nature of these parties are often scandalous, with extravagant tales such as a herpes outbreak occurring on campus after a party involving hired strippers sticking twizzlers in their orifices and then giving them to unsuspecting students to eat.
I freaked out when I saw someone who wasn't white in Valencia, but then I realized it was a CalArts kid.
