Doom Effect

The "Doom Effect" occurs when a new electronic device, usually targeting consumers, is released and someone ports the id Software classic game DOOM to it. The only stated goal of doing so is to claim that DOOM can run on it. It is not done with the full intent that people will actually play the game on said device, just that it is technically possible.

The Doom Effect usually acts a marker for then next level of experimentation with said device.

The Linux effect is when a nerd is so fixated in messing around with his or her Linux computer (then fixing the results of said messing around) that he or she is oblivious to everything else.

This is known to cause displeased partners and messy bedrooms, among other things.
