Gus Grissom hung a coat hanger with a lemon on the LEM (the Lunar Excursion Module or Apollo Lunar Module) signifying it wasn't going to work. A lemon is something that is crappy or not very good at its designated function. Upon close inspection of the LEM in Apollo photos one can see it is covered in black construction paper and gold tinted cellophane. The design and engineering document for the LEM was only 110 pages long. Projects of similar budgets to the LEM had an average of 50,000 pages. It would never have functioned as a real Lunar module.

Even a leaf blower would make a bigger blast crater then the LEMon.

1)Lemon is a popular term used in fanfiction, it refers to sexual acts. The term is based on the slightly squeamish feeling some get upon reading lemon, because of the in detail nature of it.
