Hip to the jive

I get what you're saying...
Hip= Wise/Knowledgable to

Jive=Slang/Code
"Does anything ever 'fall off ' the back of the truck? You know, 'Fall off'..."
"Yeah dude, I'm hip to the jive. And, yes, if the price is right."
(Jive: fall off truck = sell stolen merchandise from employer under the table for profit)

"Hey, on our way out we need to swing by Shorty's to pick up a couple of sticks. Are you listening?"
"Yes dear, I'm hip to your jive."
(Jive: sticks = joints)

hip pocket

"Hip pocketed" means keeping anything around for easy access.

A technician may keep a Swiss Army knife in their hip pocket, just in case.

It does imply the person carrying the thing has complete control of it, so if someone's in you hip pocket, it means they are in complete control of another person.

It's become popular in Hollywood for an agent to "hip pocket" an aspiring actor or writer.

The talent may say an agent is "hip pocketing" them. It's not the best or optimal professional relation, but as they say "something is better than nothing."

A producer sends a script to an agent, if the agent doesn't have a client that fits the role, he may give a "hip pocketed" actor the script, and a verbal guarantee that the script was authorized by the producer.

For a writer, it is reversed. You informally give an agents scripts. If a producer asks for a particular idea, the agent may give the producer the writer's script.

If the actor gets the role or the writer sells his script, they sign paperwork and become a client. If not, the agent may continue "hip pocketing" you, sticking to verbal agreements only.
It sucks to live in LA. I'm 30 years old, and agents keep hip pocketing me.

hip hop

Hip hop is a culture, or a lifestyle if you wish.
the term '4 elements' was coined when there was still only 4 elements;

bboyin (not break dancing) which could mean break boy or beat boy or bronx boy depending on where you live.

emceeing, which used to be shoutouts and such later evolved into 'rapping' and no thats not what 50 cent does because 50 cent is a sellout loser that sings bout his imagineary 'hoes'.

Djing or turntablism, this started by them just replaying the break bits in funk songs so that bboys could get down, and breakbeats was the first hiphop music ('evolved' from funk music.)

Graffiti, i dont know much about this but its visual art.

The 4 elements was a good concept for a while, but hip hopp grew and became more than 4 elements, making this term invalid.
Hip hop is a lifestyle, its a culture.

hip hop

It's a culture, it's a state of mind, it's a language, it's fashion, it's a style, it's something you feel every moment of your day. Hip hop is not commercial shit, hip hop is deep, it has a meaning for each person. You don't just listen to hip hop music, you feel it, you respect it, understand it, share it.
hip hop and rap are not the same thing
