Gateway Gadget

A consumer electronic device that is likely to convince the user to purchase the more expensive or capable model. It does not necessarily need to be in the same product line.
The iPod Touch is a gateway gadget to owning an iPhone or iPad. Also, an e-Reader can be considered a gateway gadget for owning a tablet.
