A practice of segregated applause based on the ethnicity, race or religion of those being applauded.

Claudia Roth, the German Minister of State, invented Clapartheid, when she justified her clapping to a jointly created film, at the Berlinale Film Festival, explaining that the clapping was meant only for the Israeli co-director, not the Palestinian co-director.

The filmmakers won an award for their joint film No Other Land, which charts the eradication of Palestinian villages in the West Bank. Clapartheid confused people, where they thought the minister was expressing her admiration for the whole movie, whereas in reality, she was only expressing her admiration for 1/2 of the filmmakers
