Get the Rochester Americans mug.City in Westchester county outside of New York City. Wrongly assumed to be ghetto by the more "upper class" towns of westchester like it's neighbor scarsdale. New Rochelle does have a run down and dangerous area in the downtown past the New Roc movie theater complex. Yet there is a very nice area of New Rochelle by the water and also by Wykagil. People always refer to this wealthier area as North End which is the home of alot of jews. North Enders often don't even venture into downtown New Ro and have never even heard of places like Lincoln park and Trinity school. You can usually tell the north enders from the rest of them by what middle school a kid went to. Albert Leonard is nicer and while diverse its in the north end. Isaac Young is run down and there are never more then 5 white kids in a class. New Ro actually has an excellent high school that looks like a castle, has two lakes, a brand new wing and a diverse student population. There are hispanics, definatly gangster kids (which explains the stabbing of 08)YES STABBING but there are a surprising amount of JAPs too. They party every night but manage to keep up with their AP classes. New Ro also has the best football team around making it all the way to the state championships in 09. NRHS football fully enjoys crushing the Scarsdale football team every chance they get.

Get the Rochelle mug.Rochester is a small town located in Southern Ma. It was once the area of Marion and Mattapoisett as well, but it was separated into 3 separate towns naming it the tri-town. However, it is less known out of the three towns... basically because it is mostly trees.
There is a center of town, with a place to eat, a market, a bank, a bookstore, a daycare, and a hair salon - and they are all connected. Across the street is the post office, the library, the town hall, and a church. Other than that, two other stores on either side of town, that could almost be considered in Freetown (Lloyd's Market), and Wareham (Adrian's).
The town carries the nickname of "cow town" even though no one has ever seen a cow there, just horses. They do hold a 'County Fair' every year but it is extremely pathetic and people pretend to be country. It's actually hilariously incorrect and a waste of time.
The elementary school district is fantastic, and all of the kids are friends. Then once the kids reach 7th grade, they are mixed with the little bitches from Marion and Mattapoisett, where the clicks are formed and the drama begins.
The cheerleaders are surprisingly NOT the popular girls, in fact the dance team gets cheered on more than they do. The popular kids are the jocks, any girl or guy to play a sport. The teachers treat the students like they are in preschool and add stricter rules each year.

Get the Rochester, Massachusetts mug.A city of 72,000 in the suburbs of New York City. Borders New York City (The Bronx specifically) by water but not by land. Consists of two very contrasting parts. The northern half of New Ro is Wykagyl which is an upper middle class snobfest with this gay chain deli called Cosi which looks like Starbucks and caters to country club Westchester types. The southern half of New Rochelle, downtown, is run-down and depressed. Not much here besides New Roc City, a large entertainment complex with a movie theater charging $10 per ticket. Singer Don McLean grew up here and New Rochelle is said to be the home of American Pie. Actor Ossie Davis is a current resident. Also, Matt Dillon was born in New Ro but grew up in Mamaroneck, the next town up the sound.

One person said that every person's parent in Rochester works for Mayo or IBM, which is not true. IBM only employ's 5,000 people, and Mayo employ's 35,000. There are hundreds of other jobs. The city in a big attraction in SE Minnesota, where people from cities such as Winona, Dodge Center, Eyota, Byron, and other nearby cities from adjacent counties and in the metropolitan area go to. The cities has received several awards, such as being best cities to live (Top 3 in 1993 through 1997), and is said to become the fastest growing city in the U.S.A, and have more jobs than any other city.
I'm glad I live in Rochester, Minnesota. Far better than other cities. Rochester International Airport just needs more destinations.

Rochester has a very unique vibe going on. On one hand you have the classy east side, with it's old stone mansions including the George Eastman House.
The west side is viewed straight up gangsta which can be viewed as good or bad thing. But I can tell you that people that don't live on the west side, have no idea about how friendly some people are there. Like on Avenue D, with all the Latino mothers throwing BBQ partys that the whole neighborhood is invited too. How they DON'T make you feel like an alien because of your race or how you look, but rather make you feel like part of their family even if you are a complete stanger. This is the side of Rochester that you can only see if you loosen up, and stop worrying about being shot when a dude with a baggy shirt and bandana walks past you.
I'm not going to lie to you and say that there's no violence because it's the inner city - Of course there is! But I think that people are only seeing the negative. And its time that someone show them another side.
