middle america

Like the other definition suggests, Middle America denotes the region of the USA which lies between the two coasts. The term is largely synonymous on the level of meaning with broader uses of "Midwest."

The two terms, however, differ in their connotations. While "Midwest" is a term whose etymology is unclear (what, exactly, is the Midwest in the middle of?), "Middle America" marks the Midwest by contrasting it with the two edges on the east and west. "Middle America," then, always marks its signified term through contrast with the unmarked coasts.

The effect of this contrast is to insult. The term is almost always derogatory, as the other definition shows. "Middle America" is seen as secondary in importance to the coasts, unimportant and not worth knowing, and this attitude is justified through various caricatures: those from "Middle America" are provincial and unsophisticated, etc.

In short: "Middle America" is a perjorative term for the "Midwest."

Secret Life Of The American Teenager 

Another dumb teen drama, but this one is a tad different. Instead of hinting around taboo subjects like teen sex and pregnancy, they just come right out and talk about it. Doesn't really give a full description of "Secret Teen Life" though - IE, there's no talk of suicide, cliques, drugs, etc. IMO, the title is a tad misleading.

American Empire 

A long long time ago, on a continent far far away. . .

The citizens of several small-subjugated colonies rose up against their powerful oppressors and set to work creating a new nation founded on freedom, respect, and justice for all. Even the little man.

Contained for years, an evil faction has taken control of this once respectable democracy by a number of despicable ways: using misleading language to sway voters, aligning itself unfairly with the nations largest religion, taking control of the most powerful business, and declaring itself the one moral party.

The Wrong-Wings have taken control of the country. With the virtuous beliefs of smaller independent groups ignored and the governments former care giving party crushed by lack of strong leadership. The powerful Wrong-Wings have begun dismantling the former democracy and rebuilding the nation to suit their selfish, unilateral desires. Rather than promoting the general welfare the country now an Empire to be reckoned with provides only for those in power. While ignoring it's other citizens, even the ones foolish enough to initially follow the Wrong-Wings.

With the logical guidance of the Left Side swept aside the newly formed American Empire has begun imposing its might on the world under the guise of a benevolent, yet truly arcane religious doctrine.

One day perhaps a duo of great leaders will arise to once again restore the Left Side's place in the government of the former USA and the world. One man who will help lead the movement, and another who will help teach of the Left Sides good intentions without coming across as whiny. But of course, that is just a legend.

In America 

Phrase used as an add-on to sentences. "In America" fulfills the function of a prepositional phrase, though it is often used as a sentence fragment, and is used to convey an almost sarcastic outlook regarding the American mindset of independence and superiority, or a sincere outlook of such views, which is even scarier. This usage was started by LittleKuriboh's Yu-Gi-Oh the Abridged Series, which was first posted on youtube, but is now available other places as well.

This is the greatest movie ever. In America.

1) The slavic way of spelling "America"
2) A song performed by Rammstein in their album "Reise, Reise" (Arise, Arise). While the song appears to be patriotic in the American sense, the deeper message is anything but patriotic; the lyrics clearly parody the sense of American patriotism, but many critics have argued that Rammstein's message in the song was to satirize the widespread adoption of American Culture spread throughout the world (as suggested by the Asian monks eating American fast food in the song's music video). As with many of Rammstein's songs, the message about America isn't entirely clear; but one thing's for certain: It definitely isn't praise for America.

~ Possibly an emphasis on how the widespread imitation of American culture has influenced countries all around the world, and therefore "we're all living in America". Another subtle yet powerful message that's a defining characteristic of Rammstein's music; there's always a deeper meaning.
