Mainstream Media

The most widely consumed media networks and publications in the West. Often they're either neoliberal or conservative and their views follow moneyed interests. The mainstream media is where most low-information voters get their politics from.

Definitely not abbreviated "MSM" (more commonly understood as "Men who have sex with men")

The Mainstream Media is so out-of-touch with the working class!

When a man bitches and moans in a truly over-dramatic fashion, similar to the effects PMS has on a woman's mood. Can be used as a noun, verb or adjective (manstruate, manstruator, manstruating, etc.) Could also mean for a man to be "stroking his ego" through anger, similar to masturbation or angry sex but without the dick involved.

"Edward is throwing a tantrum at Betty for overcooking his steak. Edward has been caught in the act of manstruation."

non-mainstream

the opposite of mainstream. usually not the 'trend' and usually not what everybody else is doing. original and individual. can usually be identified as something original and/or something that will probably never become popular, but awesome nevertheless.

mainstream : conformists :: non-mainstream : individuals.

SOMETIMES alternative/emo/indie music. other music, such as pop punk, can be mistaken as non-mainstream.

mainstream music

commercilized conformist music that is made to not offend anybody. It is listened to in the masses and often is unoriginal. People who don't have a clue about real music like mainstream because it is easy to listen to and it means they don't have to think and can save the effort of their braincells to think about what they should have for tea or who will be evicted from big brother.

guy: that joe mcelderry song 'the climb' is such an example of mainstream music.
girl: i know, that is why rage against the machine's 'killing in the name of' got the christmas number one.

The brainwash big businesses put out. They feed young adults with worthless movies and music. The trend. All very fake, they put out whatever is in style. Many are too filtered out by the mainstream's brainwash to wake up.
Very few mainstream artists are worth listening to.

"Reality" Tv shows would be an example. They saw how people watched Survivor, and they fed off it.
