oh my gosh

An exclamation of surprise, excitement, sadness, or fear. Pretty much the wimpy way of saying "oh my god." usually used by strong christians or when in a group of christians and you just want to be safe and not offend anyone.

Sadness:
Person 1: I just saw a dead deer on the side of the road!
Person 2: Oh my gosh, that's so sad!

Exclamation:
Oh my gosh! I'm so excited to go to Emma's birthday party!

Surprise:
Oh my gosh, you scared me! I didn't see you standing there.

Fear:
Oh my gosh, what if my parents find out about me failing my math quiz?? Oh no!

Like oh my god or oh my gosh but more sarcastic. Puts a slightly humorous or facetious tone into the sentence with which the phrase is used.

A variation of OMG (traditionally understood to stand for "Oh my god") used either to avoid accusations of blasphemy or just for the sake of whimsy.

Mostly used by teenage girls on kids shows.

gish-gosh

Gish-gosh: exclamation, informal; used to express surprise or give emphasis; informally used as a euphemism for God; the word "gish" is used by Jewish people as a substitute for "gosh", which is a substitute for "God".

In Utah, the mormons say "Oh my heck!" - but in Oregon, the hip people say, "Oh my gish-gosh!"
