First off I would like to state that in no way was this meant to be derogatory to anybody of any subculture and I actually enjoy the scene and your scene kids and do not wish to offend.
The typical scene kid can be noticed by the following;
-black teased medium length hair with red, pink, or blonde streaks in the underlayers
-tight dark blue jeans with a taper to them in most cases.
-if the scene girl chooses to don a skirt than black 3/4 leggings are appropriate attire to match.
-heavy well done make-up throughout the eye area for men...
-... and to add you have sometimes a pattern of stars from the corner of the eye(dots and other objects are also acceptable.)also they usually don a small amount of blush to make their cheeks rosy.
-tight band t- shirts (black or a bright colour) or a random t-shirt
-large framed sunglasses(Chanel, Dolce&Gabanna, Versace etc.)
-you can usually find them accesorizing with a bandanna of some colour on their bodies.
-usually slip on flat shoes or converse chuck taylor high tops.
-gauged(stretched) ear holes
-facial piercings
-tattoos
-tight longsleeves or jackets with a faux fur trim
-studded leather belts with impressive buckles or a regular buckle off to the side.
That is how i would define your average scene kid, however whereever you go there is always going to be some form of difference based on that area's current trends.

Okay. What the world needs is an updated definition of this term.
lets look at the typical scenester of 2008, rather than the backdated 2006 version.upgrades are in caps
-hair. big. usually still black. choppy layers. teased to stand up in the back. extentions.BOWS AND LITTLE GIRL NONSENSE,UM ...NOTSOMUCH ANYMORE.
-eyeliner.NOT ON BOYS.
-tight pants.
-band t-shirts
-going to shows
-piercings
-myspace/facebook/buzznet. STICKAM, HAVING YOUR MYSPACE FOR LONGER THAN 3 OR 4 YEARS, PROOVING THAT YOUR NOT JUST JUMPING ON THE BANDWAGON.
things we dont use anymore:
-dinosaurs
-robots
-little girl hair thingies aside from hello kitty because she is,and always will be,a god
-hottopic
- kiki kannable

new things we have added:
-gore, skeletons and zombies
-diamonds and money signs
things that will never change:
-knowing we are way more awesome than everyone else.
-that our girlsaudrey kitching and various suicide girlsare hotter than your ugly blonde all-american girls.
-and that our boys fuck harder than your meatheaded dumbasses.
and for the last time everyone............ ITS NOT THE SAME AS EMO.

Lets get this straight. Most of you all seem to steriotype that scene kids will ALWAYS wear skin-tight jeans, which we don't. Their is a brand of skinnies called DILLON skinnies, which are slightly skinny, but not skin tight.
Our hair is not ALWAYS multicolored, although we DO like it.
We don't ONLY wear band tee's. We wear an assortment of shirts. We love jackets, too. EXCEPT such brands as Abercrombie, Hollister, American Eagle etc. IF you wear these brands, and claim to be scene, LOOK AGAIN.
We do mostly wear Converse and Vans, although there are other brands that we like.
We do have a fascination with cutesy things.
In some areas, people are prejiduced against us "Look at that gay-a** scene kid." -_-
We highly enjoy company an insiders, then again, who doesn't.
Getting 90 bazillion friends on a social networking site is NOT our goal.
We enjoy most kinds of music, EXCEPT country, and its variations.

basically no one really knows what a scene kid is but its somewhere along the lines of a cross between a chav and an emo

widely miscommunicated as a emo kid that dresses like one (you know what im talking about) and listens to alternative or pop punk or screamo
scene kids are ACTUALLY just fakes. they're people who wanna be in a music scene so bad that they'll change themselves to create someone they arent.
if you like the music, then listen to the goddamn music, don't go around telling ppl how crazy in you are with the music and dont constantly dress to make the statement that u changed like *snap* that
also, a scene kid is NOT someone who goes to lots of concerts. ppl that go to concerts usually like the music
a scene kid is someone who goes to concerts to BE AT THE CONCERT not LISTEN TO THE MUSIC. there's a big difference. scene kids are there to say "HEY LOOK EVERYONE! IM AT A CONCERT! IM COOL ARENT I?!"

someone who wants to make a scene out of their life. By usually painting nails if your a guy, being a goth, listen to sick bands, slit your wrists, dress differently.
