Named after Oskar Dirlewanger a convicted child rapist and psychopath who became an officer in the German SS and led a regiment of convicts famous for their ill discipline and criminal acts of barbarity. Dirlewanger died in 1944 either at the hands of his own men or beaten to death by Polish guards.
