Food Waste Hero.
Anyone can be a FWH. FWHs are usually
people who volunteer to pick up unsold surplus food from businesses to save it from going to waste. Many FWHs volunteer with OLIO, the food sharing app/website, to distribute the rescued food items for
free, claim collection slots from various businesses, set up collections from new businesses, and communicate with other FWHs and OLIO users. FWHs are usually a part of a Squad of volunteers who collect surplus food from local businesses. They bring it home, list it on the OLIO app, and redistribute the food to their neighbours and local community, who pick up the food,
free of charge. FWHs
help to reduce the large amounts of food waste being produced on a regular basis. Food waste is one of the biggest problems western civilizations are currently facing. Rescuing and sharing surplus food for
free helps reducing the amount of landfill, helps
people in need to access a large variety of amazing free food, and builds communities of
people who care about our environment.
