Ralph Baer

A brilliant inventer who came up with the first proto-type home video game system, titled "The Brown Box", later remodeled and mass produced in 1973 as the "Magnavox Odyssey". Ralph Baer is widely considered by some as "The father of video games" even though pioneers like Nolan Bushnell and Steve Wozniak pioneered some of the earliest coin-op games; some of which existed before the Brown Box.
Ignorant gamer: "Who the heck is "Ralph Baer??"

ESA

Electronic Software Association. Formerly known as the IDSA. An evil watchdog organization hired by insecure gaming corporations to seek out and destroy abandonware sites instead of focusing on real problems like the piracy of current retail software.
"The only good thing ESA ever did was invent the ESRB rating system."

architeuthis dux

The giant squid. The second largest species of squid known to man. The giant squid can reach lengths greater than 50 feet and has the largest eyeball in the animal kingdom. It is thought by many marine biologists to battle with and maybe even prey on sperm whales. Unlike most squid the architeuthis dux has serrated suckers on the clubs of it's two longest tentacles which are most likely used for catching and holding prey. The giant squid is one of the earliest and most terrifying examples of the fabled sea monsters that destroyed and sunk ships hundreds of years ago and is widely considered to be the same monster known as the kraken.
"The young couple's blood curdling screams could be heard from the pier as the hungry architeuthis dux destroyed their little yacht and pulled them toward it's gnashing beak!"

Metroplex

One of the largest robot heroes starting in the G1 Transformers toy line and cartoon series; Metroplex was a colossal Autobot who could transform into a city as well as a rolling battle station. His arch rival was the Decepticon, Tripticon who was somewhat larger and also able to transform into a city/battle station.

The most recent version of Metroplex is from the Cybertron series which transforms into a giant tank-like vehicle and also has an additional transforming feature that allows him to become taller and thinner than usual.
Me in the 7th grade: "I got Metroplex for Christmas!!"
Grayland Edwards: "You should've gotten Tripticon. Tripticon is better..."

Sidearms

A coin-op game released by Capcom/Romstar in 1986. The full title was Sidearms Hyperdyne in the U.S. and Hyperdyne Sidearms in Japan. Sidearms was a very underated and somewhat rare shooter/shmup with a Robo-Tech type theme. The game featured both 1 and 2 player simultaneous action, horizontal and vertical scrolling, several stages ranging from moderate to downright difficult, challenging and sometimes huge bosses, a special power-up that unlocked a dual mecha transformation and other bonus features. The game was ported mostly to computers such as the Atari ST, and Commodore 64 as well as the PC-Engine/TurboGrafx-16 and also Sony's PSP in a Capcom compilation. Sidearms was the second game in a series known as "Jetpack Hero" which started with Section-Z and ended with Forgotten Worlds. They are related only in that they have a similar layout and gameplay; each game in the series has it's own storyline.
"I can't believe how accurate this port of Sidearms is and the sound is better than the arcade verion!!"
