Sori

(noun – plant nerd / ferncore slang)
Pronounced "Sorry"

1. Those little brown or golden polka-dots on the underside of a fern frond where the spores are made and stored. Basically: the fern’s version of baby factories, neatly arranged in aesthetic rows.
2. Proof that plants are low-key running complex reproductive operations while you’re just out here thinking it’s “a nice leaf.”
Example 1:

“Once you notice the sori on ferns, you can’t unsee them. It’s like the plant is covered in tiny QR codes for future ferns.”

Example 2:

“Botany exam tomorrow and my brain is just sori, stomata, and regret.”

Side note:
Proper bio speak: sorus (singular), sori (plural) – but “sori” just sounds cooler for slang, so it wins.

Paltergeisting

Paltergeisting (verb, from “paltering” + “poltergeist”)

Core definition:

To “haunt” or destabilize someone’s understanding of reality by using technically true but misleading communication, so that they walk away confused, doubting themselves, or unable to tell what was real.

It’s not just paltering (using truth to mislead).
Paltergeisting = the active act of creating that haunting, foggy after-effect.
• “He didn’t lie about where he was, he just said ‘I stepped out for a bit.’ Left out the part where he stepped out with his ex. That’s straight paltergeisting.”
• “Talking to that company rep was wild. Every answer was technically true and somehow I knew less after each email. I’ve been paltergeisted.”
• “Stop paltergeisting me and just say what you actually did.”

Thothot

Thothot

noun \ tho-thot \

Origin:
Thoth (Egyptian god of wisdom + writing) + thot (modern slang for someone thirsty/attention-seeking, usually in a flirty way).

Definition
1. A person who mixes ‘ancient wisdom’ vibes with obvious thirst-trap energy.
Think: posting deep occult / philosophical quotes, hieroglyph aesthetics, or “sage wisdom” captions… while very clearly angling for attention.
2. Someone who flexes knowledge the way a thot flexes selfies.
Not exactly lying—just using ‘wisdom’ as the main thirst content.
Example uses
• “Did you see Alex’s feed lately? Dude went full Thothot—ancient Egyptian quotes, moon phases, and shirtless ‘contemplating the mysteries’ pics.”
• “She’s not just a bookworm; she’s a Thothot. One minute it’s ‘the ibis-headed scribe of the gods,’ the next it’s a mirror selfie under a tapestry of Thoth.”

Thothotting

Thothotting
verb \ tho-THOT-ing \

Origin:
A portmanteau of Thoth (Egyptian god of wisdom/writing) and thot (modern slang for someone who seeks attention in a provocative way).

Definition
1. To use “ancient wisdom” or mystical/intellectual vibes as a thirst trap.
Dropping deep quotes, Egyptian/occult aesthetics, or spiritual language while clearly angling for attention, admiration, or validation.
2. To flex knowledge the way a thot flexes selfies.
Not lying—just packaging “I’m enlightened / esoteric / wise” as the main bait.
• “Alexandrea says it’s just about sharing esoteric wisdom, but all those low-lit selfies with Thoth quotes are straight Thothotting.”
• “That video of Alexandrea explaining Egyptian mythology in a silk robe? Informative, sure—but she’s definitely Thothotting.”
• “Alexandrea’s feed is a masterclass in Thothotting: hieroglyphs, moon rituals, and captions about higher consciousness wrapped around thirst-trap photos.”
• “He thought Alexandrea was just into theology, then realized her whole page was curated Thothotting for the algorithm.”

paltergeist

Paltergeist
noun \ pal-ter-gyste \
1. The lingering, haunting confusion left behind when someone misleads you using only technically true statements.
Not a clean lie—more like reality bent just enough that your brain keeps replaying the conversation.
2. A person, conversation, or system that “haunts” your mind because everything sounded normal on the surface, but the intent underneath was deceptive.
Alexandrea didn’t realize it at the time, but the way the salesperson spun the Ashley store furniture scam in Chico was a total paltergeist—every line was technically true, but months later he was still haunted by how the deal actually worked.”

Years later, when Alex put the pieces together about what really happened, he realized it wasn’t just betrayal—it was a paltergeist. Every ‘honest’ answer had been crafted to keep him compliant while the damage was done behind his back, and now those conversations replay in his head like a horror reel he never consented to watch.
