east-northwest by south
I had a hard time navigating by my boat's binnacle --- its needle-card just kept spinning around in circles, and thus showing all kinds of random "east-northwest by south" readings --- till I realized it was being affected by the magnetized eyelets in the cloth cap I was wearing! Duhhhhh..... :P

puppy diploma mill
Not to be confused with a shameless "doggie factory" that exacerbates the domestic-canine-overpopulation problem, this type of disgraceful also-valuing-wealth-over-public-welfare establishment merely prints up fake "emotional-support animal" or "therapy pet" certificates, so that you can have your waggy-tailed buddy accompany you anywhere you wish, even places with a "no pets allowed except service animals" rule.
In part one of the "Wishbone" episode, "Halloween Hound", Joe doesn't need the services of a puppy diploma mill to be allowed to have Wishbone come into Oakdale Sports and Games with him, since shop-owner Travis Del Rio assures Joe that he likes dogs.

Whalin' Jennings
Da little-known "evil twin" to da famous and well-loved silky-throated county-music singer; he was always sneaking around trying to poach large finned sea-mammals when either the IWC or Greenpeace wasn't looking.
In the Steven Seagal film, "On Deadly Ground", the chief villain is named "Jennings" and his business is oil, so I wonder if this hombre was actually the infamous Whalin' Jennings, and he had simply switched to dishonestly going after crude oil after the "natural" kind became too legally-rasky to come by.

Irany
An obvious Irany about the 1979-1981 Tehran hostage-crisis is that after a lot of threats and at least one use of military force to try to rescue the hostages instead of "negotiating with terrorists", said crisis was eventually resolved after (horrors!) **talking about it** with said captors, and forming the Algiers Accords which resulted in said hostages' being peaceably released. Makes you wonder why the U.S. government didn't try this logical method in the first place, eh???
cotterize
I can see someone's needing to cotterize a tear in sheet-metal or other fairly-tough-material paneling when making an emergency repair, but I would think that using a needle and thread would be a much more effective --- and safer --- method of choice when administering a field-dressing for a human or other living creature.
