wrist hug

A cautious or reluctant hug, where the embrace ends at the hugger's wrists; the hands don't make contact with the recipient's back. Often interpreted as lacking commitment.

Similar to hover hug.
Whether because of social anxiety, or to conceal his excitement, Ebenezer greeted people with wrist hugs.
