Fermented Baltic herring. Purported by some (but by no means all) Swedes to be a highly-prized delicacy. Asserted by everyone else to be rotten fish in a can.

My bro is in hospital after he tried to eat that can of surstromming. I hope he makes it!

Surstromming

A nearly rotten fishy/fish type delicacy that has fermented for at least six months and is usually packaged or sealed in a can and is often described as the smelliest food in the whole world.

Do NOT even smell Surstromming if you can't handle vomiting or at least gagging.
