Sometimes is done when the person is publicly humiliated, but more often is done when a person simply wants to erase their existance from the forum and have nothing to do with it any longer.

After he got embarassed from his history being dug up on the internet, he decided to roiderize all his posts, removing all traces of everything he said. All that remains now are a couple posts from him that were quoted in other people's posts.
