the name given to someone from britain or ireland usually from major cities who engage in stealing cars and taking them for a spin before setting the cars alight. usually a joy rider can be best described as a male youth in his teens to early 20's unemployed dressed in tracksuits and illiterate. maybe from a broken home but are parasitical by nature. see also death driver

A person who free rides in a group activity or project and doesn't engage or contribute. Characterized by being aloof, insecure and apathetic.

Joy ride 

To use a vehicle that is most likely not yours to pass time by driving it on a random route. Usually stealing the vehicle is part of the joyride. Most joyrides involve some form of law-breaking such as speeding, wreckless endangerment etc.

The act of stealing a car and driving it around for a short period of time before taking it out to a secluded field and setting it on fire.
This practice doubles the adrenaline experienced by compounding the felonies committed.
It's hard to say whether it began in Detroit, but they most certainly perfected the art.

people belonging to groups like these are so smooth and stealthy they are often reffered to as "urban ninjas"

West Midlands slang word for rockers, bikers, greasers etc. In the late 1980s it was used by the UK music press to refer to a specific scene centered around the bands Pop Will Eat Itself and Crazyhead. The term never found favour with readers of 'the inkies' (Sounds, Melody Maker and the still extant NME) and was soon dropped. Now often used in predominantly working-class areas of the midlands and the north to mean someone who listens to rock-derived music and/or dresses in a manner that suggests they affiliate themselves with rock music of some kind.
