When someone answers a simple question with an in depth technical description that is far more information than you wanted to know about the subject. The response may or may not answer the original question.
"Hey, what time is it?"
"Well, there are actually lots of different types of clocks. Most mechanical clocks are powered by a weight or a spring which provides the energy to spin the gears of a clock. The pendulum is propelled by the pulley and is connected to a special gear called an escapement. The mass and length of the pendulum are calibrated to cause it to swing at a constant interval and the escapement uses that interval to control the movement of the clock at a constant speed. The gears then spin the hands of the clock at the appropriate ratios to show seconds, minutes, and hours accordingly."
"I just wanted to know the time, not how the clock works. You're giving me a clock answer"
