completely unnecessary to the point of being ridiculous

They were told to bring their two-year-old son to the hospital by 6 AM for his surgery, but they spent the better part of two hours just waiting in a kids' playroom. The boy's mother commented that it was barfoofinous that they had been told to come in so early.
