Throwing beef is a combination of throwing shade and when someone has or is trying to start beef.

Person 1: they were gossiping about me and bitching about me to other people
Person 2: ooooh they're trying to throw beef!!
Or
Person 1: your so annoying
Person 2: says you
Person 3: ooooooh someone's throwing beef!!
