(n.) Radical 18th century British polemicist whose critiques of monarchy, civil society, and religion had a great impact on America's "Founding Fathers." He was also a BDSM enthusiast and the inventor (jointly, with Benjamin Franklin) of a series of nipple clips that bore his aptly-suited surname throughout most of the late 18th century.
Thomas Paine was a famous British author and debater who influenced the American and French Revolutions.
