Rick and Sam suffered from shelfitis when they looked for the potato chips in the pantry because even though the bag of chips was right there on the shelf they didn't see it and asked mom to find it which, of course, she did.

It is derived from the claim “SHE was only HELPING” and often proceeds mansplaining. At least one non-profit organization exists to help end shelping.
I was trying to focus on turning off the busted water line, but she wouldn't stop shelping so I could think straight.
