senfluencer

a person of influence on social media within the special educational needs (SEN) sphere. Usually, (but not always) parents/caregivers and young people with special educational needs.

Usually, (but not always) mums, sharing their personal stories on Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook out of sheer desperation to combat feelings of isolation. SENfluencers are raising awareness of the challenges SEN families have to navigate daily for their children. SENfluencers are pushing for real-world change in the education system, more often than not exhausted, almost always employing gallows humor as a means to connect with a wider audience and to survive unhelpful judgemental attitudes. SENfluencers are full of grit and determination and have catapulted the special educational needs agenda firmly into the mainstream agenda.
"you hit 10k followers, you are an official SENfluencer" "saw you on the news, SENfluencer in action!" "you are so SENfluential" "good for you, using your SENfluence to change the public perception of autism and ADHD"
