A great but criminally little-known alt rock group around mostly in the eighties and nineties. Best songs: (In my opinion!) Solar Sister, Earlier than Expected. Heavily influenced by Big Star, and they sound like they were influenced by Teenage Fanclub. Most popular album is probably Frosting On The Beater.
What every neo-celtic punk pop band aspires to be (Flogging Molly, Dropkick Murphys, The Tossers, etc). On vox, Shane Macgowan, a legend in his own right. Contrary to popular belief, only some members of the Pogues are from Ireland. The first three LPs, classic (Red Roses for Me, Rum Sodomy and the Lash, If I Should Fall From Grace With God). Alcoholism and rumored drug abuse accusations created a rift between Shane and the rest of the band, leading to an eventual breakup. The Pogues released albums without Shane, and Shane formed his own band, The Popes. There are many bands that have been influenced by the Pogues, but the original is still the greatest.
The term describes something that is exceptional, or awesome. It is derived from "pwn" which is ultimate nerd internet ownage. To own ponies is to do something amazing or be amazing.
The reverse of this, sucking, is to "blow ponies".
Magical Ponies are as the name implies, ponies of a magical variety.
They are invisible to all but a gifted few, however as they largely feed on fat kids, you can occasionally see the shimmering outline of a Magical Pony in the crumbhaze that follows.
Person 1: Hey look at that fat kidrun!
Person 2: Woah man, look into that crumb haze! There must be at least three Magical Ponies right on his tail!
