In what’s known as black American culture, it can be considered an expression. The is is a way to express disapproval of, as if by uttering a sound coming from a closed mouth, slightly opening it, while sucking in air through the back side of your molars (teeth), ending the sound with the release of the remaining air you’ve sucked into your mouth creating the sound of that at the end of the word “chew”; the expression ‘hew’ put it all together the whole of the word of the sound you make is 3 made of syllables open/suck air/release.

when someone says something so unreasonably foolish and stupid theres no way to reply to the statement they have just said so you smack your lips making a 'mtchew' noise. it is also used to express annoyance, disappointment or some cases used to show in a friendly way distaste for a sarcastic remark. it is sort of a 'ugh' for black people or used as a eye roll but as a word. the word is when your tongue is sucking your teeth/

West Midlands slang word for rockers, bikers, greasers etc. In the late 1980s it was used by the UK music press to refer to a specific scene centered around the bands Pop Will Eat Itself and Crazyhead.
