Matthew McConaughey was getting big in the 90's and then had string of poor role choices. Notably, Sahara. He was thought of as a bad actor with a pretty face and charming accent. Then he was recognized critically for Mud and suddenly his career took off again. He did Wolf of Wall Street and Interstellar, for example, during the McConaissance.

Matthew McConaughey gained popularity for his rom-coms. Even though he loved the roles, he wanted to be rebranded.

Therefore, Matthew took a hiatus from appearing in rom-com films until he was offered a lead role in The Lincoln Lawyer, followed by Killer Joe, Bernie, The Paper Boy, Mud, and Magic Mike.

These movie offers were back-to-back, giving the actor the "rebranding" he was holding out for. Renaissance is defined as "rebirth or revival" allowing Matthew McConaughey's new brand to be known as the mcconaissance.

Tired of working a dead-end job, I decided to bring about a mcconaissance in my career.

A shopping spree will give my dull wardrobe a mcconaissance.
