Human Factor Authentication (HFA)
Human Factor Authentication (HFA) is the “Reality Defender” between your AI agent doing everything for you and doing absolutely anything it wants.
Unlike MFA, which verifies your identity, HFA confirms that an actual human approves an AI agent’s actions before it authorizes payments, shares your bank account, or makes other consequential decisions.
Your agent can negotiate, shop, schedule meetings, and write 47 emails explaining how productive it is. But before transferring money or accepting a 900-page Terms of Service agreement, HFA makes sure that humans (E.g. you) actually agree.
Technical specifications:
* Protocol: Trust, but verify. Especially agents.
* Trigger: Money, sensitive data, and decisions that can’t be undone with Ctrl+Z.
* Authentication: Verified human approval of a specific action.
* Known vulnerability: Humans clicking “Approve” without reading.
* Compatibility: All agents.
* Scalability: Approximately one human per human.

“My AI agent negotiated a 40% discount on my mortgage. Human Factor Authentication (HFA) stopped it from signing the paperwork and wiring $50K without my approval.”
“My AI agent wrote this Urban Dictionary definition. Human Factor Authentication (HFA) required me to approve publishing it. The agent is now arguing that requiring human approval of a definition about human approval should not require HFA. I declined the HFA.”
