Harassbait
A form of baiting common on social media platforms like Discord and Reddit where the goal is to provoke someone into a reaction that can be framed as harassment—then report them and get them banned after the damage is done. Harassbait follows the DARVO pattern (Deny, Attack, and Reverse Victim and Offender): the baiter provokes relentlessly, waits for the target to snap, then reports the target for harassment, presenting themselves as the victim. The platform, seeing only the reactive harassment and not the proactive baiting, bans the target. Harassbait is the digital equivalent of punching someone until they hit back, then calling the police.
Example: "He followed her from server to server, making subtle digs, bringing up her trauma, questioning her sanity. For months, she ignored it. Finally, she snapped and called him an asshole. He screenshotted immediately, reported her for harassment, and she was banned from the platform. Harassbait had worked: he'd provoked the reaction, then used it against her. DARVO in action—she was punished; he was rewarded."
