Expolighting
A digitallighting technique that uses exposés—public threads, videos, or documents—to gaslight a target. The exposé presents selective, often decontextualized “evidence” to portray the target as malicious, unhinged, or abusive. The target is then forced to either respond (which is framed as further evidence of instability) or remain silent (which is framed as an admission of guilt). Expolighting weaponizes the genre of “accountability” to systematically distort reality and destroy reputations.
Example: “The 40‑minute YouTube video compiled her out‑of‑context replies from five years, presented with ominous music and a narrator claiming she was a serial harasser—expolighting, using the form of an exposé to erase context.”
