Detroit Dive

When you need to make a left hand turn but there isn't time for the usual "safe" positioning and execution via a stop and a sharp turn because the traffic window of opportunity is closing fast. So you start a long sweeping left turn, early, at a high rate of speed, by moving into the path of oncoming traffic, aiming at the side street or driveway you mean to end up in before the other cars get to you.
Oh my gosh, look! That fool is making a Detroit Dive right in front of all those cars!
