Death Care Industry

The industry involved with the preparation, coping, and handling of matters related to death.

This can range from things like marketing pre-need plans which allow for seniors to plan ahead for their day to ensure the costs and decisions aren't on the bereaved. It also includes things like the selling of merchandise, discussion on what families want and when, plots, gravestones, tombs, etc etc. There is much criticism from the consumer side against homes that focus on profit more so than reasonable prices for the consumers.

Such things such as caskets marked up from double to quadruple the wholesale price, to urns being marked up even more, to simple, base cremations costs being far more than other providers. There's also emotional manipulations, your mom would of wanted more, this is the last thing you can do for her, well, we can help with the costs (costs already being inflated), etc etc etc, and the family or spouse or parent is in an obvious state of distress.

A significant but minority of homes likely engage in profit over people ideas, it is on you, the consumer, to shop around (as weird as that sounds) and see what prices different homes offer for their merchandise and services.

It's also notable that homes with family names can be bought out by corporations who keep the names, so be careful with that.

Lastly, the people who work for homes who are forced by management to upsell and manipulate, I feel bad for them and the positions they are put in.
Gal 1: Hey... so I wanted to go into the death care industry, I want to help families, and well, you know I'm kinda good at that stuff-

Bro 1: You know some of the funeral homes there can be super explorative and make families pay wayyy more than what they should, plus convincing them they need all this fancy stuff when that's not really menaingful to the event...
