A phrase used by kpop stans when their faves are targeted for doing something problematic so they try to point out something that namjoon did years ago (that he apologized and learned from). It's a way for them to try and cover up what their oppars have done and to feel better about themselves.
It was referenced by Namjoon in "MAP OF THE SOUL: PERSONA trailer mv" when he said, "The three syllables of my name and the word 'but' that should become before any of those," showing how petty some kpop stans can be and that he knows everything they say.

"You heard that *insert random kpop idol* said some pretty racist and sexist stuff recently right?"
"Yeah, but Namjoon did *insert something he did 6 years ago* so it's not that bad-"
"Please dear god shut up"

Get the But Namjoon mug.“But Namjoon” is a phrase that K-pop community uses when one of their faves do something problematic and they want to redirect the attention to Kim Namjoon, rapper and leader of BTS, and to justify their faves actions.
Kim Namjoon once upon a time did some problematic things but sincerely apologized and educated himself. He is completely innocent now but K-pop community still brings him up at their convenience.

Get the But Namjoon mug.A phrase or a card used by kpop stans when their faves are in trouble. Namjoon did pretty shitty stuff a couple of years ago, but owned up to his mistakes after. A lot of kpop stans use this against army when army tries to call out their faves. But Namjoon doesn't work since Namjoon owned up to his mistakes and has constantly said he regrets his past. This card is stupid, since he has changed and your faves keep on doing the same problematic thing over and over again. If kpoppies' fav is in trouble, they automatically bring Namjoon up out of no where to defend their faves. They don't call out their own faves, instead waste their time trying to cancel Namjoon for something he did years ago. And that something, he did apologize for and there's even examples where he owned up to those mistakes.

Person #1: First off, calm the hell down. Second of all, Namjoon repeatedly said he regrets his past, apologizes for his mistakes, and to show that he grew he literally changed the lyrics of Fake Love so "niga" and "naega" wouldn't be considered to be the n word in the United States. Also, Namjoon worries a lot when writing lyrics, he said himself he reads a lot of newspapers and books to study social phenomena, and even got advice from a professor of women's studies. Also he just hated his hair, not gonna lie, the hairstyle choices he made was terrible,, but he expressed in a livestream where he regrets it. Namjoon did pretty shitty stuff, but at least he can own up to his mistakes, unlike YOUR fave who is doing the same mistake over and over again.

Get the But Namjoon mug.But Namjoon is a tactic used by kpop fans whenever their favorite kpop group does something problematic. So to take the attention away from their favorite they bring up old problematic things that Kim Namjoon has done and apologized for. HOWEVER, in the recent comeback trailer for BTS’ MAP OF THE SOUL: PERSONA, Namjoon himself referred to this phrase and reclaimed the “But Namjoon” tag
1. A: Omg idol X did something nasty he should be called out!
B: But Namjoon did that too...
2. Namjoon (MAP OF THE SOUL: PERSONA comeback trailer lyrics): The three syllables of my name and the word “but” that should come before any of those.

Get the But Namjoon mug.Members of boy group Bts are known for their problematic past (2013-2017), especially their leader Namjoon. So whenever their fake-woke fans try to dig out another artists objectively problematic past for the sake of drama, people call them out on their hypocrisy. "But Namjoon" is their excuse as they have heard that line while being called out so many times that they don't even take it seriously anymore especially because they say he has apologized for past mistakes, but which ones? Saying the n-word? writing sexist lyrics? Having a photo-shoot inside of a holocaust memorial? wearing a Nazi hat? Trying to act black? Wearing dreads? Or the random objectively problematic things he has said? Looks like he has only really apologized for maybe 2 of those things.
Bts fan: Oh look that guy has said something mildly offensive i'm going to attack him without looking for context
Person: But hasn't that member of the group you like done the exact same thing?
Bts fans collectively: BuT nAmJoOn *use of sarcastic emojis*

Get the But Namjoon mug."but namjoon" is a phrase that kpop community once used to justify their faves problematic behaviour by deflecting the attention to Namjoon, leader of BTS, who once did problematic things in the past.
Using the "but namjoon" phrase in an argument to play down the actual issue involving your faves problematic behaviour, is a poor choice and shows either ignorance or lack of interest in racism, is completely missing out the main problem and purporting false moral (also called: fake woke).
However, Namjoon has proven once again he's educated and socially conscious. In press conference LY: Tear, he let us know the n word should never be used if you're not black, and they even censored a Korean word (naega) in their new song 'FAKE LOVE' to not upset anyone.
Conclusion: "but namjoon" is cancelled and it's time to use it to our advantage. There aren't any more excuses for idols to be antiblack or racist.

Karen: Koreans obviously are not educated about this issue. You can't blame them if they use the n word!
Becky: How are you expecting from Koreans to be aware of the meaning of the n word? Stop being so overdramatic.
Intellectual: But Namjoon understood so why should I believe that?
