Abrahamic Exception
The massive elephant in the room when it comes to modern fantasy fiction, and a major trope that the Abzuverse actively goes out of its way to completely obliterate. In standard pop culture and fantasy media (think Percy Jackson, God of War, or Marvel), writers love to freely resurrect, butcher, and reinvent ancient polytheistic gods like Zeus, Thor, or Anubis, turning them into superheroes, villains, or expendable comic relief. However, those same writers almost always treat living monotheistic religions as completely untouchable, leaving a massive, safe bubble around Jewish, Christian, and Islamic figures to avoid controversy.
Within the Abzu & Anki Expanded universe, this blatant double standard is thrown out the window. Instead of ignoring monotheistic faiths, the Abzuverse tackles the Abrahamic Exception head-on by applying the exact same high-level, hyper-detailed worldbuilding treatment to Abrahamic traditions as it does to the pagan pantheons. Rather than dragging the God of Abraham down into a basic polytheistic family dispute or turning Jesus into a generic anime protagonist, it cleverly respects their structural differences by building complex, parallel cosmological frameworks like Tehom & Shamayim va-Aretz (for Judaism) and Al-Lujj wa-as-Samāwāt wa-al-Arḍ (for Islam). It’s essentially a masterclass in narrative equity, proving that you can include monotheistic, polytheistic, and non-theistic traditions in the same cosmic sandbox without erasing their theological dignity or watering down their cultural identities.
“Man, the way the Abzuverse tackles the Abrahamic Exception is honestly brilliant. Most fantasy franchises just pretend living monotheistic religions don't exist to avoid getting canceled, but this project actually builds entirely separate, transcendent cosmic frameworks for them so they can clash with pagan pantheons on a level playing field.”
