virtual optimist

A virtual optimist is a person who portrays a positive and hopeful future on social media, while generally not doing anything in real life to impact that future, expecting it to happen on its own.

You need to stop being a virtual optimist about this neighborhood, it hasn't improved in 20 years and has only gotten worse, as no one does anything to improve it.

horsiz optional

What you eye-twinklingly add as a hasty "aside" after saying "hey" to someone, before they can impishly shoot back with da "standard" retort of "Hey iz fer horsiz".

I would sincerely hope dat it would be "horsiz optional" instead of "mandatory" when saying "hey" to someone... not dat I don't totally love those large gorgeous friendly four-legged mammals, but I wouldn't wanna hafta care for a whole herd of dem.

Boundless optimism sounds good, but really it's no different than a state of bliss where everything is okay, and everything will be okay.

Empty Optimism

People being optimistic when there's really nothing to be optimistic about. A sense that someone's positivity has no merit and is practically wasted because almost if not everything is purely negative at the time. This kind of thinking can be toxic because being happy all the time, even and especially during hardship, doesn't necessarily solve anything.

I'm getting tired of the amount of Empty Optimism that everyone around me is exerting. There's really nothing to be happy about right now.

Cautious optimism

Theres no such thing as cautious optimism. Cautious optimism is cynicism. Thinking the sky is going to fall and trying to look forward to the little bit of good left in things before it does is cynicism. Really, having a bucket list is cynicism, since even though it becomes more likely that you'll die soon when you get older, once the mystery isnt there you're not really living anyway, you're just trying to live the rest of your days as an adrenaline junkie before the crash at the end, to go out with a bang, that's cynicism. Most thoughts disguised as positive are really cynical by nature.

Fuck positive thoughts and people, they think the end is a crash and it becomes one for everybody else too. There is no cautious optimism.

One who glorifies themselves at the expense of those around them or associated with.

My co-worker is a “self optimizer” purposefully promoting prowess over others to the detriment of those he/she views a a threat in their immediate environment.
